Round Square

A school without borders. A community without limits.
TAS is a proud member of Round Square, one of the world's most respected international school networks. Founded in 1966 on the educational philosophy of Kurt Hahn, Round Square connects more than 280 schools across 50 countries in a shared commitment to character education, experiential learning and the development of young people who are ready to make a genuine difference in the world.

Membership of Round Square is not simply a badge. It is a commitment. Every Round Square school must demonstrate how it lives the six IDEALS that sit at the heart of the network, and TAS has been doing exactly that for years. It is one of the things that makes a TAS education genuinely distinctive and globally connected.
The IDEALS
At the heart of Round Square are six interconnected themes known as the IDEALS. Together they form a framework for character education that goes far beyond the classroom, shaping the kind of people students become and the kind of contribution they make to the world around them.

Internationalism
Developing a genuine understanding of and respect for other cultures, perspectives and ways of life.

Democracy:
Engaging with community, voice and shared responsibility, not just as a political concept, but as a way of living.

Environmentalism:
Building a deep sense of responsibility for the natural world and the choices we make within it.

Adventure:
Embracing challenge, taking appropriate risks and discovering what we are capable of when we push beyond the comfortable.

Leadership:
Developing the confidence, integrity and empathy to lead with purpose and bring others with you.

Service:
Understanding that we grow most when we give back, and that the world is shaped by those who choose to act.

What it means for TAS students

The world, brought to our doorstep.
Round Square membership opens doors that simply are not available elsewhere. TAS students have the opportunity to attend international conferences, participate in student exchanges, connect with peers from schools across six continents and take part in service projects that cross borders and build bridges. In recent years, TAS Round Square students have attended international conferences in Colombia and New Zealand, returning with broader perspectives, lasting friendships and a clearer sense of their place in a complex world.

Closer to home, the IDEALS are woven into the everyday fabric of TAS life, from our service learning program and environmental initiatives to our student leadership opportunities and character education framework. Round Square is not something TAS does on special occasions. It is part of who we are.

Round Square schools encourage students to go beyond their comfort zone and discover that there is more in each of us than we know.
