Primary School

Where foundations are built and curiosity is a way of life.

Academic foundation

Known, challenged and supported to be their best
At TAS, learning in the Primary years is intentional and progressive. Strong foundations in literacy and numeracy are established early through explicit, direct instruction, giving every student the tools they need to engage with confidence. As students mature, collaborative and student-centred learning approaches are introduced, developing the critical thinking, communication and problem-solving skills that will serve them well across every subject and every stage of life.

Our teachers know their students. They understand how each child learns, what motivates them and where they need support or challenge. That knowledge shapes every lesson, every conversation and every decision made in the classroom.

Literacy and numeracy: Strong, explicit foundations built from Prep, deepening across every year level through proven instructional approaches.

Critical thinking: Students are taught not just what to think, but how to think, through inquiry, discussion and real-world problem solving.

Public speaking: Confidence in communication is developed from an early age, equipping students with a voice they will use for life.

Digital fluency: Technology is woven thoughtfully into learning, building skills that are relevant, practical and future-focused.

Specialist lessons

Learning that goes further.
Every week, students from Prep to Year 6 participate in a rich program of specialist lessons taught by dedicated expert teachers. These sessions sit alongside classroom learning to ensure every TAS student is exposed to a genuinely broad education, one that develops creativity, physical literacy, language and character in equal measure.

Each week students have a lesson in:
- Art
- Music
- Health and Physical Education
- Swimming
- Japanese (Year 3-6)
- Speech and Drama (Prep - Year 2)
- Skills or Service Electives (Year 5 - 6)
- Library and reading

Pastoral care and wellbeing

Learning is only part of the story
At TAS, pastoral care is woven into the everyday fabric of school life. Our teachers know their students well and work closely with families to ensure every child feels supported, connected and confident in who they are. The Primary years are a time of real personal growth, and our staff are attuned to that. Students are guided with warmth and consistency through every stage, building the resilience and self-awareness that will carry them forward into Secondary School and beyond.

Co-curricular and enrichment

The learning (and fun) does not stop when the bell rings
From Prep through to Year 6, students have access to an extensive range of co-curricular and enrichment activities that broaden perspectives, deepen friendships and bring out abilities students never knew they had.
